TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL

Nothing really new this morning ... No significant change of track ... Weather remains still partly sunny with fairly strong winds and an isolated shower from time to time. The sea is slightly choppy in Nettle Bay. Tropical Wave moves fast (40-45 mph). The cloud mass which now affects Dominica (south of Guadeloupe) should reach us in the afternoon.
TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL will pass just south of Martinique around 1 pm. This system is then expected to run 280-320 km southwest of St Martin around 9 pm. Chantal could bring us relatively strong cyclonic winds 30 knots (55 km / h) or higher in the squalls and rough seas 2.5 to 3 m. 3 to 6 meters waves are possible south of the island. The greatest danger is the probable heavy rainfall with accumulations of 50 to 130 mm possible. These heavy rains could indeed cause flash flood in some areas (eg downtown Marigot, Concordia, Colombier and many others). It is therefore recommended to be careful even in the car, these floods can take everything in their path. Mistrust also on beaches and browsers, heavy seas to strong expected. The southern coasts are mainly concerned but also the East at first and West coasts tonight and tomorrow. (From Cul-de-Sac/Pinel, Dutch side to Baie aux Prunes, west coast). Possible rip currents and surfs. Most of the victims during the cyclones are due to ignorance, recklessness and/or imprudence and often caused by floods. Currently, La Guadeloupe and Martinique are in Vigilance Orange (Orange Watch). Storm surge of 30 to 90 centimeters (1 to 3 ft) are possible (temporary increase of sea level due to very low atmospheric pressure).

St Barths and St Martin are now in Yellow Watch. Meteo France says:
Tropical Storm CHANTAL through the West Indies in the late morning south of Martinique. Although expected path to be far south of our islands, its marginal effects should be felt. Stormy rains and gusts will occur from midday and will continue into the evening. Accumulations of locally significant rain. By midday, Atlantic ocean will become very rough and choppy, with waves 8-10 ft and maximum waves between 16 and 20 ft. Wind blows from east to north-east around 28 mph with gusts up to 43 mph. Tonight and overnight it will shift south-east and temporarily increases 30 and 35 mph with higher gusts. More details ...
